******PUBLIC POST******
Remember a few months back how I blogged about how annoyed I would get at the people who would say "well Obama has gotten the most donations from the military! The military favors him!" ? Here's the link, in case you need a refresher! http://teamsugar.com/group/974220/blog/1117601
Anyways, so I knew the Military Times was doing this poll and I couldn't wait to see the results! Here is the link with handy dandy pie charts! http://www.militarytimes.com/static/projects/pages/081003_ep_2pp.pdf
Here are the highlights:
- 68% of all respondents will be voting for McCain, 23% for Obama
- 67% of active duty will be voting McCain, 70% of retirees will be voting McCain, Obama will recieve 24% and 20% respectively.
- When asked what the most important issue is that they will base their vote on:
- 42% said character
- 25% said the economy
- 16% said the war in Iraq
Mothercare
Taschen
Calvin Klein
I thought it was very interesting that 42% said character! Thats nearly half and McCain wins in a landslide!
Thats staggering.
1Very cool Haus!
I like the one that says who would do a better job as President handling the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan --- only 19% said Obama.
Seems pretty telling to me when 4/5 of your own military think you couldn't do a good job at war.
2Maybe they want someone who believes in them and won't weaken or hamper them.

As all of you ladies know my boyfriend is an active Marine and he told me that he will NOT be happy when and IF Obama gets elected. He doesn't want to call him his Commander-in-Chief.
4Obama as Commander-in-Chief scares the crap out of me. We should elect a man who actually knows what he's doing.
5I just think its endlessly fascinating the difference between the people who are there, living it 24 hrs a day every day for months on end, and the people here who see what they see on the news.
I mean its really night and day. Rasmuseen says that 46% of voters trust Obama more with the war to 45% McCain. I mean how do you go from a landslide to statistical dead heat?
6It happens when the truth comes out slowly and people actually read it. O talks about having tea with terrorist supporting countries, can you see him leading the military against them as well. The tea would get cold and the scones would get trampled.

Interesting, haus. Thanks for posting!
8Interesting.
Good post.
I passed it on.
9everyone in my family thats in the military is voting McCain. and that includes the Army, Marines and the Navy.
10I know that the stats of "The military are for Obama" are false AND true because of current military people in my family. The active-duty members say they wouldn't vote for Obama any more than they'd vote for Britney Spears as president. (My cousin said this and I thought it was funny). He said that she is probably MORE qualified to run the country because she has to deal with "Confrontational situations and major conflicts on a daily basis." Scary thought huh? Because given her mental issues, there's no way she could be competent at it right? Yet one of our military men thinks she'd be better? Now of course he's joking (Just in case someone actually thinks I was serious) but it does give you something to think about doesn't it?

Thanks for posting this hf. This is good to see.
12Interesting and spirit boosting!
13Well duh most military officials will vote for him, he did serve and was a POW. Why is this big news??
14I think it's big news because a few months ago there were a lot of Obama supporters making a big deal out of the fact that Obama had received more donations from people in the military.
I still question if he actually did receive more donations from people in the military, though, seeing as campaigns are not required to report employer/occupation information on those contributing less than $200.
The link hausfrau provided in the original piece shows just one of the articles pointing to the Obama/military claims made.
15Several of my ex-military family members are voting for Obama, which drives me insane.

I agree. I think a lot more stock should be put into the thoughts of people like the military, economic experts, etc. Noone is an expert at everything, and I think that when they vote as if they are, you run the risk of not choosing the right candidate.
Also, this report makes Colin Powell's decision even worse in my eyes.
16My Dad's in Iraq right now. He says if Obama wins he's staying.
17Sarah, he'll probably take away the vast majority of their funding like our buddy Clinton did.
18It seems like most of my coworkers are voting Obama or third party, which I am surprised by.
19I'm proud to say that I work for a company where NONE of us are supporters of Obama.
