AMEN, ANGIE!
I have heard from many friends recently who tell me they feel its now WRONG to disagree with the President. WHY? Because now it’s UNpopular? Because when President Bush was in office it was much more "IN" to disagree with the President? But, now? NO, not now!... Now it’s NOT really "IN" to disagree with the President. And people get offended when you do. And SOME even feel you are racist if you do. BUT, don’t you think we should be able to disagree with the President, no matter what party or race and NOT FEEL BAD ABOUT IT!?... It’s America!
What do YOU all think?
Actress Angie Harmon weighed in on this very topic.... (LOVE HER)
"Here's my problem with this, I'm just going to come out and say it. If I have anything to say against Obama it's not because I'm a racist, it's because I don't like what he's doing as President and anybody should be able to feel that way, but what I find now is that if you say anything against him you're called a racist," Harmon told Tarts at Thursday’s Los Angeles launch of the new eyelash-growing formula, Latisse. "But it has nothing to do with it, I don’t care what color he is. I’m just not crazy about what he's doing and I heard all about this, and he’s gonna do that and change and change, so okay … I'm still dressing for a recession over here buddy and we've got unemployment at an all-time high and that was his number one thing and that's the thing I really don't appreciate. If I'm going to disagree with my President, that doesn't make me a racist. If I was to disagree with W, that doesn't make me racist. It has nothing to do with it, it is ridiculous."

I am so happy you posted this Laine. Maybe Angie will start a trend toward sanity for the Hollywood airheads to follow. Maybe they are all noticing their bank accounts are rapidly emptying under the Messiahs rule.

Who called her racist?
:
2em, write her and ask her. I have seen the ugly specter of racism raised right here on Sugar, when I posted critiques. You might even seen one or two. ..but then again i have also seen some of my critiques challenged because I was a man, and could not possibly understand a woman's perspective.
3Yeah, I'll get Jason Sehorn on the horn right now and check with him. We go way back.
4I do wish I had the Mannings' number though. Mmmm. Mannings.

6Ooohh, love the Mannings!
Anyways, I saw this last night on Greta, and I was also wondering if anyone had publically called her a racist. I don't think so? But she may have just gotten some heat from friends/colleagues for mentioning her views in the same way that Grandpa is mentioning that people get heat around here sometimes. I do appreciate the sentiment, though. She is absolutely right, and makes perfect sense.
7Yes, we all should be able to criticize the president without being judged or called names.
I have seen several times here on Sugar and IRL people being called racist for disagreeing with President Obama.
I
the Mannings too.

10Finally!
11And she is probably preempting the racist comments for criticizing him.

Agreed, Sam. It's proactive damage control.
12The response is so predictable, it can be addressed in advance.

People criticizing O-boy are called racist because those who still worship him cannot defend what he's doing to this country. Citizen Sugar is a perfect example. How many times have we all read comments attacking someone for their criticism? When someone on the attack is asked to back up their statements with fact, they can't do it and it turns into a name calling free-for-all.
13Well, Trixie, it should be obvious that there's nothing substantive or valid we could have to complain about. Therefore, we must all be racists.

Gosh, even EUROPE is starting to complain about him!
15Well Tiff the EU is a little slow on the uptake. It takes them longer to see the error of their ways.

Heard, that, Tiff.
Great, isn't it?
Have you all seen Daniel Hannan? He's been on Fox several times in the last week or so. Check YouTube....

I was just on YouTube looking at it again. I just LOVE it! He has been on so much lately, but I think Glenn Beck did the best interview with him on his radio show. Should I post the youtube of Hannan?
18Sam, you are right on that. They are finally waking up and saying- wait just a minute! Maybe this Socialism stuff isn't all it's cracked up to be!
19That and maybe they should have kept their snotty noses out of our election.

No offense Trixie, but I'd LOVE an example of someone being called a racist on Citizen for criticizing Obama. Personally I've never seen it.
21And I know many of the regular liberal posters, and I they wouldn't cry racism just because you disagree with Obamas policies.
22Gah...take out the "I" and we'll have a complete sentence.
23I wonder what they'll call her when her eye lashes fall off when she stops using Latisse...It was formerly used on glaucoma suffers.

24I have too many other things to do tonight to do much research, but take a look at some of the opinions expressed here:

The problem is prevalent enough to merit discussion in national media, so it's difficult to deny it.

GKitty, I heard about that. Yeeeesh. I know a lot of people are obsessed with getting their lashes to look better, but...they're called an eyelash curler and mascara. Stick with those, please!
26Laine
...that doesn't prove Trixie's point. She used Citizen as an example of people
being called racist because they disagreed with Obama and his policies. There was no such example in that thread.
I can agree that some people in this world will always feel that a criticism on Obama equals a racist statement, but I still maintain that I've never seen a regular Citizen poster call another poster racist because of their beliefs about him.
And most of all that post makes me miss Jude.
27I believe people have offered pros and cons but I don't remember anyone having used such an easy way out by calling someone a racist...I think I'm one of the few people that will give an opposing view on this thread. It's too early in Obama's term as president for me to pass judgement on his presidential leanings (socialist, communist, moron etc). He will make mistakes. I have quite a few past presidents under my belt, I have never seen anyone hit the bricks running like this Obama. That being said, he will trip and fall, it's how he gets back up that is more important to me than all the predictions from the political jockeys that didn't get elected. Hollywood is heavily democratic, they won't call you a racist, you just won't get invited to the party and/or loose a part in a movie.
28let's face it when you listen to Hollywood personalities pontificate, you just know they are going to use hyperbole.
29"I can agree that some people in this world will always feel that a criticism on Obama equals a racist statement, but I still maintain that I've never seen a regular Citizen poster call another poster racist because of their beliefs about him."
Here, here, sarah.
30I don't have the time to re-read every Citizen thread for the last nine months. Also, the site search tool is not perfect. However, it's clear logical progression from "Fox News is racist" to "everyone who agrees with Fox News is racist".
If you choose not to see that, and believe that Sugar is a perfect world filled with mutual respect, that's your prerogative. However, the Newsbusters article I linked demonstrates that it's a valid issue, whether it applies "here" or not.

Also, you have to recognize that if there was a blatant name-calling post against a conservative, it would have been reported and deleted.

I don't agree that the racist card is being used now that he is President; if you disagree with him or question all the "change" you are accused of being negative. The sentiment seems to be that we should all stand behind him and wait to see what happens before criticizing (how long should we wait, I would ask, as it seems a lot of his economic changes are ridiculous). I find it ironic that there was and still is criticism of Bush but no one is supposed to question Obama's strategies. And if they do, they must preface it with "but I love him and voted for him and he is awesome!!"
33I'm coming back to this late in the day so to speak.
Let me rephrase my comment and see if that makes it better:
People criticizing O-boy are called names with negative connotations because those who still worship him cannot defend what he's doing to this country. Citizen Sugar is a perfect example. How many times have we all read comments attacking someone for their criticism? When someone on the attack is asked to back up their statements with fact, they can't do it and it turns into a name calling free-for-all.
34Ron Silver recently passed away. He was a liberal (actor) who became Conservative after 9/11. This is what was written about his experience:
"But after the 2001 terrorist attacks, longtime Democrat Silver turned heads in Hollywood with outspoken support of President George W. Bush over the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Silver spoke at the 2004 Republican National Convention, began referring to himself as a "9/11 Republican" and reregistered as an independent.
In an interview with the Associated Press a month later, Silver said his support for the war on terror was costing him work in liberal-minded Hollywood."
Appears anyone in Hollywood who discloses he/she thinks differently is subjected to ousting & ridicule from the Democratic Party. So much for the Democratic party and their phony embracing of everyone for their differences.

Juan Williams had a similar experience when he published a book criticizing, aspects of "Black Culture", much like Bill Cosby. It shocked him.
36I liked Ron Silver. I agree with you Pam on "phony embracing of everyone for their differences." The party that professes to be about compassion is less than compassionate toward others with a different viewpoint.
37yes Bren. The current Democratic Party promotes itself as the "party of compassion" they need long as you "share their ideology"- My son attended middle and high school with a predominance of liberals and never have I witnessed a more vicious group of adults (teachers and faculty) then at this school. Any child who did not agree with their ideology- watch out. I don't mean to digress but that's the ugly truth.
I am sure there are many more Conservatives in Hollywood who will not "come out" for fear of being sanctioned by the liberally-dominated, mean-spirited attack machine currently running that industry.

Grandpa, that "Shock" is about rich and poor in our community. The poor people don't like it when rich media blacks take them to task to sell a book.
Hollywood is still run by old men that where subjected to the communist black listing.
39Gkitty, that's your explanation for Hollywoods liberal tyrants? old men subjectd to communist black listing? I haven't heard that before.
Also be interested in your explanation for our schools--their one-sided liberal biases being shoved on our children and the sanctions the professors & teachers use against students who do not agree with them?

The Arts will not be beholding to McCarthy era mind sets. As far as liberal teachings in school I guess you have to pay to control your children's education.
41Gkitty, The point I was making was that Juan Williams, considers himself a liberal. He at least presents liberal views cogently, firmly, and apologetically, whenever I have seen him on TV. What I was attempting to point out was up until that particular book he wrote ( I will admit I have not read it myself), he always felt that personal, distorted attacks came from the radical right. What he found was something entirely different. The level of viciousness of the attacks from the left was beyond anything he had ever seen before, and certainly not from the radical right. By the way I know nothing about his background, so I can not tell you what challenges he faced growing up, nor do I know how old he is. In any case if you want to change attitudes, and prepare people to succeed, you generally look to some one successful. I mean how did Juan Williams become a "rich media black"? Maybe there is something to speaking what was called "the Kings English", when I was in grade school. Could it be that "dressing for success" is also helpful in securing employment? How about trying to do well in school, instead of putting down and ridiculing the poor kid trying for a better life through educating him/herself?
42Here I found this on the web from something called "The black snob", it has no attribution as to the author of the article, and what I took was just a part of the article that dealt with his background: He regularly appears on National Public Radio as a correspondent and writes for The Washington Post.
He’s won an Emmy for his television documentary writing and he won critical acclaim for documentaries Politics—The New Black Power, and A. Philip Randolph: For Jobs and Freedom. He is also the author of the non-fiction bestseller Eyes on The Prize: America's Civil Rights Years, 1954-1965 and Thurgood Marshall—American Revolutionary.
Despite these accolades, Williams’ official break with much of the African American intelligentsia came in 2006 after the release of Enough: The Phony Leaders, Dead-End Movements, and Culture of Failure That Are Undermining Black America—and What We Can Do about It. In the book he criticizes current black leaders and politicians, arguing that black Americans should take more responsibility for their present situation and reinvest in their communities using economic and political policies that are most conducive to advancement in the black community.
Like other critics of policies born out of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement, Williams pushes the need for a reinvestment in education, monogamy, marriage and self-sufficiency. He’s an advocate of family planning, birth control, oral contraception, condoms and the morning after pill to combat unwanted and teenage pregnancies.
The common complaint regarding Williams’ book is that it seems to discount the effects of institutionalized racism and demonizes lower-class blacks."
43Juan is not well liked in our community. I do know a lot about him personally, he doesn't WALK like he TALKS. In large social gatherings, he comes off as aloof and superior. He is comfortable if he is the guest speaker and dips out the back door when done.
44Grandpa, great research. Juan Williams pushing for "the need for a reinvestment in education, monogamy, marriage and self-sufficiency. He’s an advocate of family planning, birth control, oral contraception, condoms and the morning after pill to combat unwanted and teenage pregnancies" is impressive and I hope more in the black community follow his lead. The democrats continue to promise a better life for minorities yet over decades, keep getting the same lame results with their pitiful welfare programs, opposing educational opportunities etc keeping many in the same hopeless state of dependency on government. Looks like Obama is offering more of the same.

What about his beliefs? is there anything that he preaches about lifting yourself out of poverty that you particularly disagree with?
46Coming from him? No. Poverty to him is the black experience!
47The problems that I seems to have with his critics, is that JW is saying succinctly "look stop finding excuses for failure, these are the tools needed to lift yourself out of the community. Use them and you will succeed."
