I was browsing the DC Examiner Web site and several headlines caught my eye. I wanted to share some of them.

  • Obama: Govt. is hiring nearly 800 new IRS agents to enforce tax code
  • Obama wants a social engineer for high court --- When legal scholars talk about a pragmatic justice, they’re talking about someone who isn’t bound by the law as written. In rendering a decision, he or she considers the context of the case and outside factors, like the greater social good. But as is always the pitfall with social engineering, somebody has to pick what’s good and what’s bad.
  • ‘Automated’ radar racked up $74M in police OT--- The D.C. police department has spent nearly $74 million in overtime payments to have officers sit in cars monitoring the city’s “automated” photo radar guns, records show. The money spent represents almost four-fifths of the revenues earned from the tickets the radar guns are issuing, records obtained under the Freedom of Information Act show.
  • Studies: Obama gets more press than Bush, Clinton combined --- As President Barack Obama passed his 100th day in office last week, two studies judged that the news media have given him more coverage, and more positive coverage, than his two predecessors at the same point in their terms.
